Named one to Billboards' Top 25 Next Big Sound, thanks in part to a video of one of their frenetic subway performances was posted to Reddit and went viral to the tune of over 2.2 million views, and in a very short time amassed a large fan base. Additional videos have millions of views, and Facebook likes over 360,000.
This is all for good reason, too. Their music is infectious, impossible to stay still listening to. As old-fashioned as their musical approach is, – if one were to call live instrumentation old fashioned – the structure of their songs follows very closely to any hit EDM track, hence their self-prescribed "brass house" genre. The drums provide a rhythmic base, the saxophone a bass line and the trumpet serves as the melody, guiding you to a gradually increasing, precipitous crescendo, where all the instruments come together only "drop" from a dizzying height, clashing together in an explosive climax of sound. Too Many Zooz will definitely force you to reconsider the way you think about jazz music. Don't just take our word for it, Beyoncé APPROVES!
TOO MANY ZOOZ have shared the stage with Beyoncé, KASKADE, Beats Antique, Galactic and more.
From Kingston, Jamaica to Beijing, China, Lilla has recorded and performed with an impressive array of artists, including album featured artists Esperanza Spalding and Talib Kweli, Annie Lennox, Trombone Shorty, Ciara, Damian & Stephen Marley, Willie Nelson, Mos Def, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Carole King, Kenny G, and more. With her dynamic band and soulful originals, few modern performers bring the class, presence, energy and talent that Lilla does to the stage.
At the age of 6, Lilla taught herself to play the piano by ear, soon after she fell in love with gospel music. In high school, she toured the East Coast with the internationally recognized choir, Royal Blues. At 16 Lilla joined a socially conscious Hip Hop band along with Esperanza Spalding. Their original songs pushed the boundaries of Hip Hop, Jazz and Soul. After providing guest vocals for a number of hip-hop, R&B and jazz notables, Lilla felt the call to produce an album of her own.
This down to earth, kind hearted young artist infuses her music with passion and soul. She generates an uplifting energy and is active in her community. Through music, education, environmental and charity efforts, she is committed to make a positive impact on the world with music as her vehicle.
Writing, producing and performing her two full-length albums are some of Lilla’s most remarkable accomplishments. The end products are those of uncompromising dedication to music with integrity. Her latest album was recorded all over the map, from Bob Marley’s studio (Tuff Gong) in Jamaica, to Kfar Saba, Israel. The Awakening is her testament to the power of music and its ability to connect musicians, culture and people from around the globe.
