Dam-Funk grew up in the Los Angeles city/suburb of Pasadena. A '70s baby, he came of age in the era of the Uncle Jamm's Army parties, of electro-pharaoh Egyptian Lover, of Prince's purple reign. His parents nurtured his musical talents as a child and by his teens, he mastered the drums, then the drum machine. A chance encounter led to an apprenticeship under funk songwriter/producer Leon Sylvers III (SOLAR Records) and by the mid-90s G-Funk era in hip-hop, Dam found his musical skills in high demand by rappers such as Mack 10 and MC Eiht. "Everybody was trying to do the live instrumentation thing, so then you got cats like me playing on records," Dam explains.
Sideman status wasn't enough though. Dam remembers "watching gold plaques hitting the wall" for everyone but him and he decided to go "full-funk" and make a do-or-die try to become an artist on his own terms. In 2006, Dam-Funk and a few friends launched the popular Funkmosphere party in L.A., bringing the boogie back. It's around then that Dam drew the attention of Stones Throw and both label and artist related to Dam's insistence that "funk is not just a Jheri Curl. There was more than that."
Dam's partnership with Stones Throw has seen the release of his debut 'Toeachizown' (2009) and 'Invite the Light' (2015), as well as an anthology of early productions, 'Adolescent Funk' (2010), to 'Higher' (2013) with Steve Arrington and '7 Days of Funk' (2013) with Snoop Dogg.
Saucy Lady has collaborated with numerous artists around the globe including K-Maxx, E-Live, Throwback Zack, Soul Clap, Inkswel, Rahaan, T-Groove to name a few. She has received accolades from globally recognized DJs, producers and artists from Patrice Rushen, DJ Spinna, Kenny Dope, Numark, Qbert, Ali Shaheed, Prince Paul, Dam Funk, to Andre Harrell for her work in the debut album "Diversify". The album was produced by Japan-native multi-instrumentalist Yuki "monolog" Kanesaka in 2011, in which one of the singles off the album, "Touch It" was released by Dopeness Galore on 12" vinyl. Distributed by Rush Hour, with 2 remixes by Chicago's renowned disco DJ/Producer Rahaan, the release exposed her globally into the dance club scene. Due to increased demand, the album "Diversify" was re-released in 2014 on Monophonic of Kadokawa in Japan as a major label release with added new bonus tracks. Bonus tracks feature raw and intricate new remixes by celebrated producers J-Zone, Slakah the Beatchild and Rahaan.
In 2015, the Chicago label Star Creature Universal Vibrations took notice of the disco diva and released a two-sider 7" record. Already sold out, the release consisted of an original House tune "On the Floor" with the flip side being a boogie-disco remake of the Beatles classic, "Help!". Star Creature will be releasing 3 additional 7" records featuring Saucy Lady in 2016.
Other planned releases in 2016 include a 12" record of an original tune to be released off of Street Muzik, a label owned and operated by Chicago's DJ/Producer Rahaan.
A recent collaboration with E-Live for a remix of "Together" plans to be be released on 12" record in 2016 by Boogie Cafe Records. As if that is not enough, Saucy Lady has been establishing her own music label, Audio Chemists Recordings with releases coming out regularly.
